Nepal Landslide Society organizes

Seminar on

Geomorphic Hazard and Its Mitigation in Nepal

Nepal Landslide Society organized a half-day international seminar on September 23, 2003 in Greenwich Village Hotel from 15:00 PM to 20:30 PM. The Organizing Committee consisted of:

 The seminar was participated by about 80 geoscientists, civil engineers environmentalists and other experts from China, Japan, and Nepal.

 The seminar consisted of inauguration and technical sessions. The inaugural session was chaired by Mr. Achyuta Nanda Bhandary, President of NELS. Mr. Shital Babu Regmi, Director General, DWIDP was the chief guest. The technical session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Madhav Prasad Sharma. In the seminar four papers were presented. NELS presented the results of brief investigations of recent landslides along Naubise-Mugling-Narayanghat-Hetauda-Kathmandu Road sections. Mr. Naoki Omoto, Expert on Sediment-Related Disaster Mitigation, DMSP/JICA, described the project on landslides undertaken by Disaster Mitigation Support Programme Project. Dr. Luc Boerboom of International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation, the Netherlands, introduced the objectives and achievements of IGUDM Training Course. Lekh Nath Pokharel, Department of Narcotics Control and Disaster Mangement, Ministry of Home, HMG/Nepal presented a paper on “Disaster Management System in Nepal”.
